Day trip to Wollongong

The plan was to make a day trip to Wollongong over the New Year's weekend...
Mummy, as usual, started fussing over the weather forecast.
Weather forecast on Saturday morning:
Saturday - Possible thunderstorms in the afternoon

Sunday - Cloudy

Based on that, we decided to wait until Sunday to make the trip.. boy oh boy, was that a mistake...
.
.
.
.
Because, it actually didn't rain at all on Saturday until close to midnight, and then the rain carried over to Sunday...

Here's a pic of the weather on Saturday - at the National Botanic Gardens, nice and sunny!

Here's a pic of us at Wollongong, windy and cloudy... luckily it stopped raining by the time we got there!!!

We couldn't do a lot of the touristy lookouts as it was a bit too foggy, so we decided to check out the beach at North Wollongong and have some tasty seafood!
Highlight of the trip - the Seafood Platter @ Lagoon Restaurant!!!!
Close up of the platter (hot & cold combination platter):
Hot seafood platter consisting of Lobster mornay, Oyster Kilpatrick and Mornay, Scallops, pan fried Moreton Bay Bugs, tempura battered fish, calamari, BBQ octopus and prawns!!!

Cold seafood platter consisting of smoked salmon, blue swimmer crabs, fresh oysters, prawns, mango and strawberries!

Me playing with the bucket for the discards...
The platter was for 2, but it was huge enough for mummy daddy and popo to share!
They licked the plate clean, it was so yummie!!!!
I entertained myself by "cooking" some fish and feeding it to mummy!

Final picture of us, with the Christmas tree!

Then, it was time to take the long drive home to Sydney.... with which I happily snoozed in the car!

Hi

Just a quick note from the team here at Tourism Wollongong.

It's great to see that you enjoyed your trip to Wollongong and found one of our best restaurants - the Lagoon. Amazing seafood.

Let's hope the next time you visit Wollongong we turn on some better weather for you!

All the best,

Kate

Hi Kate,

Yes, it was the best seafood platter we've ever had!!!

We had a hard time deciding between the Lagoon or the Anchorage, in the end, we thought the view from the Lagoon would be nicer :)

We'll definitely make another trip down, as we missed out on going to Mt Keira lookout, as well as the scenic drive through Helensburgh as it was wayyy tooo foggy!!!

Will check out the tourismwollongong site for more tips :)

Hi Meijin

Make sure you come down via Grand Pacific Drive next time. You can head back to Sydney via the Highway, but the Grand Pacific Drive takes a much more casual and coastal route.

Good luck!

The seafood platter is beautifully presented too. Everything looks so fresh and perky, inviting one to tuck in. Judging from the empty plates, the seafood must be really yummy. Hope you will take us there too when we visit in April. This time you can go by the scenic route.
